The name of ex-DGP Gupteshwar Pandey is missing from JD (U) list for Bihar polls

The JD (U) published on Wednesday its list of 115 candidates who will participate in the assembly elections in Bihar, scheduled to start on October 28.

However, its alliance partner, the BJP, released the list of electoral districts it will compete and the names of the candidates for the first phase only.

One notable name missing from the JD (U) list is former Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey, who voluntarily retired to join Nitish Kumar’s party. It seems that their eagerness to contest the Buxar assembly election has been compromised as the constituency has gone to the BJP quota of seats. The JD (U) would compete in two seats of the Buxar assembly: Rajpur and Dumraon, while the remaining two, Buxar and Brahmpur, have gone to the BJP.

The BJP published a list of 27 candidates for the first phase of the elections, but two Buxar district seats, Buxar and Brahampur, were left out. However, he has appointed a candidate from Shahpur, a contiguous district seen as an alternate seat for Pandey. The BJP then ceded the Brahmpur seat to the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), which joined the NDA on Wednesday.

Buxar is a stronghold of the BJP, represented three times by Sukhda Pandey, a university professor and highly articulate leader. However, he has abandoned active politics. However, your son is also looking for a BJP ticket from the constituency.

A senior BJP official said the party was reluctant to give a ticket to former DGP Pandey, who has drawn attention in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. “The opposition, outside of Bihar, has already started attacking the ruling party for doing petty politics using the former DGP,” said a BJP leader, who declined to be quoted.

A JD (U) official said Pandey will now pin his hopes on the diversion of Lok Sabha from Valmikinagar. The seat falls into the JD (U) share.

Meanwhile, the JD (U) has accommodated all the RJD MLAs that recently joined the party. The father-in-law of RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav, Chandrika Rai, will participate in elections for the Parsa Assembly constituency, Lalan Paswan from Chenari and Bima Bharti from the Rupauli Assembly constituency

The BJP, which published its first list, fined Indian shooter Shreyasi Singh, daughter of former Union Minister Digvijay Singh of Jamui.
