Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh on Thursday welcomed a petition from retired police officers to the Bombay High Court seeking restraint in the “media trial” in the death case of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Deshmukh compared the Mumbai police to the Scotland Yard police, considered one of the best forces in the world, and condemned the way they were “targeted” in the Rajput case.
“The Maharashtra police and the Mumbai police have reputations. The Maharashtra police are compared to the Scotland Yard police. The way Mumbai police were attacked in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, I welcome the PIL presented by retired IPS officers, ”the state Interior Minister said according to the ANI news agency.
Five former Maharashtra Police Directors General (DGP), two former Mumbai Police Commissioners and a former Head of the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) have referred a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) to the High Court against the “media trial” in Rajput death investigation.
Former DGPs PS Pasricha, K Subramaniam, D Shivanandan, Sanjeev Dayal, Satish Chandra Mathur; Former Mumbai Police Commissioners Mahesh N Singh, Dhananjay N Jadhav and former ATS chief KP Raghuvanshi presented the PIL on Monday.
His allegation accuses the media of indulging in partial coverage of the incident and attempting to influence the investigation by creating false propaganda.
“This has created an air of suspicion in the minds of the general public about the facts of the case under investigation and also about the Mumbai Police, health services and other state support services,” states the PIL.
Retired police officers have said that “irresponsible media coverage” has damaged the image of the Mumbai police.
The allegation also points out that the “media trial” has led to a parallel investigation carried out by individuals, issuing opinions, exposing material witnesses and disseminating crucial evidence that, in turn, hinders the work of the investigating agencies.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the death of the Rajput, who was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Office of Narcotics Control (NCB) are also investigating money laundering and drugs. angle to the side.
