“We had a heavy rain production system that invigorated the monsoon last week. A carryover low moved from the western Pacific that merged into the Bay of Bengal, strengthening the westerly winds and causing rainfall along the west coast and the low pressure area road. Therefore, a lot of heavy and extremely heavy rains were recorded during the past week, which will probably be gradually reduced, ”said Sunitha Devi, IMD scientist who presented the weekly weather report.

He added that for the past five years, the withdrawal from the monsoon has been delayed, starting only after September 15. During the first week of September, there was a 30% rain deficiency, but it was covered in the following week, registering an excess of 7% rain. and in the third week an excess of rain of 40% was registered.

The monsoon rain over the country since June 1 is an excess of 9% with an excess of 29% over the south of the peninsula, a 17% excess over central India, an excess of 15% over the northwest of India and an excess of 4% over East and Northeast India.

The normal date for the country’s complete monsoon withdrawal is October 15 based on the new monsoon start and withdrawal dates issued by IMD in April this year. Until last year, the normal date for the start of the retreat was September 1 and October 15 for the full retreat. The new start dates are based on monsoon data from 1961 to 2019 and the withdrawal dates are based on data from 1971 to 2019 analyzed by scientists at IMD, Pune.
