Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) issued a directive Thursday
for
RT–
PCR grouped sampling based
for migrants and those who return from abroad and are in quarantine facilities.
“The following guideline is in compliance with the letter from the Secretary, MoHFW dated May 12, 2020 on the subject. The decision has been made to use once
RT–
PCR grouped sampling based
for surveillance purposes
for migrant workers in institutional quarantine facilities, international passengers in institutional quarantine facilities / marked hotels
for quarantine and
for surveillance purposes in green areas, “said the document.
Monitoring
guidelines would be followed
for grouping of samples: a cohort of 25 people will be identified. A nasal / throat swab will be taken following the protocol established by trained laboratory personnel under the appropriate protective equipment (apron, hand glove, face shield / goggles, N-95 mask), according to the ICMR protocol.

Proper labeling (name / age / gender / sample ID) must be done on the sample container.
the
guidelines stated that 25 such samples from said cohort would be packed in triple layer packaging and transported to the laboratory identified under the cold chain according to ICMR
guidelines. The outer container that mentions “to be tested
for SARS-CoV-2 “will also carry the sender’s details (name / address / phone number).
The samples will be divided into aliquots and therefore the pooled samples of 25 samples will be analyzed in the laboratory by
RT–
PCR method.
The report will be transmitted to the quarantine / facility in question within 24 hours. If any of the pooled samples are positive, the individual samples would be analyzed from aliquots kept in the laboratory.
