A 35-year-old man embarked on a wave of stabbings on Sunday, killing one and wounding five others in the Cottonpet area of ​​Bengaluru, after stealing a butcher knife from a shop that sold lamb.

According to the police, the man, later identified as Ganesh (35), walked for almost two kilometers around Anjanappa Garden, Bakshi Garden and Balekai Mandi, stabbing people without provocation, causing panic among residents.

A patrol team that rushed to the scene arrested Ganesh and recovered his weapon.

“The defendant had gone to a lamb stall located near the Vinayaka Theater in the Anjanappa Garden, around 8:30 am. He stole a knife from the stall, after which he walked the streets randomly stabbing people who passed near him, ”police said.

Although the deceased has been identified as Mari R, a 30-year-old day laborer, other injured in the stabbing are Velayudham, Rajesh Suresh, Anand and Prakash. Velayudham is in critical condition and is receiving treatment in the ICU.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that Ganesh did not know any of the victims. The accused has been arrested and is under investigation. While the family of the accused claims that he is mentally unstable. We are waiting for the medical reports, ”police said.

A case on charges of murder and attempted murder has been registered and the accused is being questioned to establish the motive for the attack.
