The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will complete its five-year term, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said on Tuesday, while ruling out the possibility of midterm elections in the state.
Raut told reporters that the people of the state do not want polls now.
His comment came a day after Maharashtra BJP Chairman Chandrakant Patil said that “there will be no choice if no combination works,” while responding to a query about the possibility of mid-term elections in the state.
“Nobody wants surveys in the medium term. But neither can a solution to the instability be found. Therefore, something may happen one good morning. Everyone will try to make sure nothing happens. But if neither combination works, then there will be no option, ”Patil had told reporters, adding that neither party wanted polls now.
Addressing the media here, Raut sarcastically said that the Electoral Commission, which announces the election calendar, may have given Patil “some responsibility” and that the latter may have more information about it.
“But I take Chandrakant Patil’s comments positively.
He said that the people of Maharashtra do not want polls. I also say that there should be no elections. Therefore, the Thackeray government will run for five years and there will be no elections, ”Raut said.
To a question about former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, who joined the Nitish Kumar-led JD (U) after voluntarily retiring last week, Raut said that one has the right to join politics after resigning from service.
“We had no personal enmity with Pandey saheb, who was Bihar DGP. We were against statements made against the Mumbai police while he was in office. You don’t insult the Mumbai police, ”Raut said.
Pandey was targeted by leaders of the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadai government after he sought a CBI investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput at a time when the Mumbai police were investigating the matter.
“Now, the CBI is here (reversing the matter). The whole country is waiting to see what the IWC does in this case. I think Pandey should wait a while too, ”said the senior spokesperson for the Seine.
He also asked the news channels “that raised questions about the Mumbai Policies investigation” to now ask questions of the CBI.
The central agency has been investigating the deaths of the actors for more than a month.
“The channels questioned us. Now they should ask the CBI, Pandey, Nitish Kumar questions, ”he said, claiming the charges were part of a conspiracy to defame the Shiv Sena.
The CBI said on Monday that it had reached no conclusions about the Rajput’s death and that all aspects were under investigation.
When asked if the MVA government will not implement new agricultural laws, Raut said Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray is holding talks on the issue with the NCP and Congress.
“It is being discussed at the government level. Let the government speak about it, ”said Rajya Sabha member, adding that the Seine had opposed the bills in Parliament during the monsoon session.
Raut, whose meeting with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis caused a stir last Saturday, said he will meet again with the former prime minister to finalize the schedule for the latter’s (Sena spokesperson ‘Saamana’) interview.
He also said that no discussion was held between him and Fadnavis about the upcoming elections to the Bihar Assembly during that meeting.
“However, I expressed my joy that a leader from Maharashtra took charge of the Bihar polls,” Raut recalled.
He said the Bihar Sena workers wanted to contest the Assembly elections in the eastern state, adding that he will hold talks with CM Thackeray, who heads the party, on the issue.
