Amazon’s Great Indian Festival sale has been a huge success this year. The e-commerce giant, in a press release, detailed how the company’s Prime Early Access day saw massive sales, along with new Prime subscriptions, especially from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The company also revealed that the amount iPhone 11 models sold during the opening day of this year’s Great Indian Festival sale was more than the total iPhones sold in the entire holiday sale last year. Amazon further revealed that smartphones and large appliances have been the top-selling categories this year and how buyers have extensively taken advantage of the EMI options provided by Amazon. This year’s Great Indian Festival sale recorded its biggest opening during Prime Early Access for Amazon Prime subscribers on October 16.
“We are honored how sellers, brands and ecosystem partners across the country have come together during these unprecedented times to spread joy across the country,” said Manish Tiwary, Vice President of Amazon India in a statement. In the statement, Amazon also said that the largest number of new customers bought for the first time from Amazon.in. The company said 91 percent of new customers came from smaller cities and 98.4 percent PIN code customers purchased within the first 48 hours of the Great Indian Festival sale. Additionally, Amazon said that more than 66 percent of new Prime member subscriptions during Prime Early Access in this year’s sale come from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
The best-selling categories during this year’s Grand Festival of India sale were smartphones, large appliances, and consumer electronics from brands like OnePlus, Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi. Furthermore, the company said that 1,100 new products such as OnePlus 8T, Xbox Series S, OnePlus Nord (Gray Ash Edition), received an enthusiastic response. Among smartphones, Amazon said that the best-selling smartphones during this year’s Grand Festival of India sale were the iPhone 11, Redmi Note Series, Redmi 9A, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus Nord, and Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime Edition. Among household appliances, the most popular were front and top loading automatic washers, refrigerators, air conditioners, microwave ovens and dishwashers. Among electronics, Amazon said that laptops, headphones, tablets, cameras and smartwatches saw the highest demand.
In addition to iPhone 11, Prime Early Access on October 16 was also the biggest sale day for Amazon Echo devices. The company said that more than a lakh of people purchased Amazon Echo devices during Prime Early Access on October 16. The Echo Dot (3rd generation) and the new Fire TV Stick were among the top 10 products sold on Amazon. Amazon’s Kindle also posted more than 2.5 times sales compared to the first day of the Grand Festival of India sale last year.
Amazon also said that its sellers are witnessing some of their best sales during this year’s Great Indian Festival sale. The company said that more than 32 percent of vendors saw their biggest sales during the annual sale, and more than 1.1 lakh vendors received orders in total during the Great Indian Festival sale, 66 percent of which were Level 2 and Level 3 cities.
Lastly, Amazon shed light on customers who opt for EMI purchase options. Amazon said that a credit amount of more than Rs. 600 million rupees was disbursed during the first day of Prime Early Access. The company said that two out of three EMI purchases were without EMI cost. Additionally, 3 out of 4 EMI buyers came from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Amazon said it sold more than 3.5 billion smartphones on EMI. The company, in its statement, said that one in three OnePlus and Oppo smartphones were purchased at EMI.
