‘The helmet was loose, the organizers negligent’: relative of a Hyd student who died while karting

Organizers have registered a wrongful death case that does not amount to murder.

Two days after Sri Varshini, a 21-year-old third-year engineering student, lost her life in a tragic accident, her family alleged that the sheer negligence of the karting organizers had caused the accident. Sri Varshini along with his family and friends went to Hasten Go-Karting at Hyderabad’s Gurram Guda on Wednesday evening.

Sri Varshini was sitting together with his uncle in a twin kart and was among the first to drive ahead of the group of cousins and family friends. In the video that has emerged, it is seen that the duo were sitting in a green kart numbered 11. They were both wearing helmets and also had their masks. Before moving on, the man greets the woman recording the video and Sri Varshini also briefly turns to the camera. It was during his second round that someone raised the alarm and a voice was heard shouting in shock.

Speaking to TNM, Sri Varshini’s cousin Naresh, who was part of the group that had gone karting, claimed that the accident would not have happened if the organizers had been more careful. He said: “We all had our helmets on and it was tied up too. The helmet that Sri Varshini was given was extremely loose. They had no smaller helmets. During the ride, the helmet came off and her hair got tangled in the motor located just behind the kart seat. We immediately took her to a nearby hospital. “

The cousin also complained that the kart’s engine was open and if it had been plugged, such an accident could have been prevented. According to the family, Sri Varshini was critical when she was admitted to the hospital. He suffered serious internal injuries and his spine was also injured in the accident.

TNM attempted to contact the organizers of the Hasten karting, located at Gurram Guda in Hyderabad. His number was disconnected and the website currently says that the karting center will be closed until Monday.

Sri Varshini’s uncle told TNM that family members had gone to Osmania General Hospital to complete the paperwork. As soon as the body is handed over to the family, the final rites will be performed.

Speaking to TNM, M Mahender Reddy, Inspector of the Meerpet Police Station, said: “The sections have now changed after the victim succumbed to his injuries. A case has been booked in section 304 IPC and we have also booked it in disaster management sections because the entertainment venues have not received permission to operate yet, even though they were operational. The investigation is ongoing and the organizers will be caught soon. “
