The ex-president of Congress Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday urged the government to come clean in the border confrontation with China, saying that there must be transparency in the issue.
“We would like to see a little more transparency in what is going on. It is difficult for us to have a position without understanding the facts. I think the government should make it clear to the people of India what exactly is happening on the border,” he said in a press conference held via video conference.
Indian and Chinese soldiers are engaged in an eye-to-eye confrontation in four places along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since the beginning of May, and several rounds of talks between the military leaders, including a meeting on Monday, have managed to put an end to the protest which began with violent clashes between the troops of both sides in the Sikkim and Ladakh sectors of three weeks ago.
The ministry of foreign affairs has rejected China’s claims that the Indian troops entered through the LAC, and accused China of the forces obstructing the patrols on the Indian side of the disputed border.
China it is said that trained over 5,000 soldiers on its side of the disputed border in Ladakh sector, where India has also sent military reinforcements to strengthen your defenses since the increase of tensions along the LAC threaten to plunge bilateral relations to a new low.
Gandhi said, “We are hearing different stories. I will not go on guesswork and it would not be appropriate for me to comment without knowing the details. But it is important that the government of India makes it clear what is happening on the border, so that people can understand and have a position.
“Frankly, there is clarity. What is happening with China in Ladakh or Nepal, there must be transparency. I don’t see the transparency. Regarding China, it is a live issue, so I don’t want to comment on that. I’m going to leave that to the wisdom of the government”.
