The girls at the Delhi University Northeast hostel are caught in the blocking lurch

Students residing at Delhi University Northeast Women’s House for Women in the Dhaka complex, North Campus, say they are being pressured to vacate the facility by May 31, which is the last day of the contract to disorder operations under the current caretaker. The impending maintenance work on the building in July is another reason why authorities are requiring students to leave the hostel. But, the hostellers claim that Provost has been asking them to pack and leave forever, even before the closure was announced. As a result, many of the 100 students residing here had left, but 13 girls are still inside the facility and have no idea how to get home safely in remote areas.

“The provost has been mentally torturing us since the beginning of the blockade. She told us that the disorder would stop working due to low pay for the workers in the disorder. But we believe it is the hostel’s responsibility to provide us with all the basic amenities at a time like this, when it is so difficult to return to our home without adequate availability of transportation services, “says one hotelier, on condition of anonymity.

Another hotelier reports that while he arranged for his local guardian to pick her up, it was not an easy matter. “On May 7, I requested permission to leave the hostel facilities because of my local guardian willing to take me to his place; To this he had received an affirmation. The next morning, Provost called me, and then asked me to hand over the keys to my room to the house keeper and leave the room keeping my belongings in a separate room. I subtly replied that it was not possible to vacate in such a short time. This continued for a good 45 minutes. Finally, I was forced to present my keys to the guard in charge of the agreement with my guardian that Provost would have full responsibility so that nothing happened to my belongings in my absence, “says Garima Rathi, a hotelier.

“The administrative problems are liye aa rahe hai kyunki mujhe subah pata chala ki simple guarda ke gali main kisi ko cornoavirus ho gaya hai, toh simple chaaro guard jo aas paas rehte hai woh nahi aa sakte.” – Rita Singh, provost of the Northeast Student House for Women, DU

Shelter authorities say they face administrative problems in receiving the girls during the pandemic. Rita Singh, provost of the Northeast Student House for Women, says: “Administrative matters are liye aa rahe hai kyunki mujhe subah pata chala ki simple guarda ke gali main kisi ko cornoavirus ho gaya hai, toh simple chaaro guard jo aas paas rehte hai woh nahi aa sakte. Maine bachho ko advisory ja ri ki hai ki Delhi ke halat thik nahi hai, toh agar kuch halfto main flight chalne lage toh aap apne safe jagah par chale jaaye. Mujhe safai walo ko bhi ho sakta hai band karna enfer, toh phir bina guard ke, bina mess ki operation ke, kaam kaise chalega? 13 logo ke liye hume itni badi building ka tension laga rehta hai ”.

Christina Ering, president of the hostel’s student welfare association, says: “Many states in the Northeast have closed entirely and do not allow strangers to enter.” How do the shelter authorities expect us to return when all means of transportation are prohibited by the Indian government? How do we travel during those times? Delhi University and the Ministry of Human Resources Development have clearly sent notices asking students to stay where they are and not to travel … Other hostels like the Rajiv Gandhi Hostel for Girls, which has around 50 students, do not has given such notice, and the same is true of the International Student House for Women. The clutter that closes is the way Provost indirectly asks the girls to vacate the hostel. The girls have nowhere to go and are panicking! Many are preparing for their homework and exams, but in such circumstances, no student can focus on studies. ”
