Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congressional Committee Chairman Girish Chodankar said Tuesday that the Goa government should order a judicial investigation into the deaths in the COVID-19 isolation rooms at the Goa Medical College (GMC).
“The Goa government should stop the internal investigation farce into the death of two-time MLA congressman Jitendra Deshprabhu and immediately initiate a judicial investigation by a retired judge to reveal the truth behind mysterious deaths in COVID solitary confinement rooms along with other aspects, “Chodankar said in a statement.
“Nothing has changed at GMC since another death similar to Jitendra Deshprabhu’s was reported yesterday. The government must immediately order an impartial judicial investigation to investigate the mysterious deaths of some patients in the COVID-19 isolation room since announced the shutdown. Can GMC inquire about itself? Chodankar questioned.
He further said that the state government should also halt any attempt to save a doctor related to the family of a BJP leader facing an investigation for negligence in the service. “The impartial investigation will give justice to the common man who suffers in GMC and other government hospitals. Our purpose is to have a better system in operation in GMC and other government hospitals,” said the president of GPCC.
“The Chief Minister and the Minister of Health must clarify whether all globally established protocols and procedures on the deaths of COVID-19 suspects have been carried out in Goa,” he added.
“GMC authorities should explain why so many people with respiratory illnesses are dying mysteriously shortly after being brought to GMC and must explain the treatment and services they offer to those patients,” he said.
