Calling the recent visit by Union Interior Minister Amit Shah to a tribal family in West Bengal’s Bankura a “braggart”, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged on Monday that the lunch he ate there was prepared another place for a “brahmin cook”.
Also claiming that the interior minister did not even know what tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda looked like while adorning a wrong statue of him there, the chief minister announced that the state government would declare a holiday on the anniversary of Munda’s birth on 15th of November.
Addressing a state government event in the Khatra area of the tribal-dominated Bankura district, Banerjee attacked Shah and said a few days ago that he visited Bengal to show off. “Dikhane ke liye kuch din pahle mannaniya grih mantri Amit Shah aaye the. Unhone ek Dalit familly ke yahan khana khaya tha (Shan came here and had lunch in a Dalit house to show off), ”he said in Hindi, claiming that“ the food was brought in from outside and cooked by a Brahmin ”.
“There were pictures of the Dalit family cutting cabbage and cilantro, but none of this was seen (on their plate). He had eaten basmati rice, posta bora (poppy seed fritters), ”he said, adding that after lunch he left. “There was a child who suffered from thalassemia or some disease that he did not know.”
During a two-day visit to West Bengal earlier this month, Shah met the family in the Chaturthi village of Bankura and ate with them on 5 November.
Banerjee added that Shah even put a garland of the statue of a hunter, thinking it was that of the tribal freedom fighter Munda.
“Shah had adorned a statue thinking it was from Birsa Munda … Later, it was learned that it was from a hunter. But my workers Ma, Mati, Manus (TMC motto) will make sure that the Birsa Munda statute is installed here. In fact, the state government will announce the holiday on the anniversary of Birsa Munda starting next year. It will be updated on the list of state holidays, ”he said.
He also accused the BJP of defaming its Trinamool Congress (TMC) by one percent of the wrong people, said 99 percent of them are good. “We are defamed by only one percent of the wrong men in TMC than also those who came from the CPI (M)”.
The Center for the Amendment of the Essential Products Act also took over, from which potatoes and onions have been excluded. Referring to the Center as “aaloo ki sarkar (Government of potatoes), Banerjee claimed that it is ensuring that“ you cannot even eat a meal of rice and potatoes ”.
But, he said, the state government will extend the free food grains scheme beyond June 2021, it announced earlier, as it hoped to “form the government after the next Assembly elections.”
He also asked people not to vote for the BJP as the central government was giving the financial benefits to the poor only with their money. (AND ME)
