New Delhi:
AR Rahman, who made his debut as a musical composer with the 1992 film Red, has been paying tribute to the iconic singer SP Balsubrahmanyam one post after another. Rahman, who was one of the first to tweet “devastated” after the legendary singer’s death, wrote: “Celebrating the music, life and personality of SP Balasubramanyam” in another tweet. He shared a video, speaking about the music legend as he knew him. Among the many interesting anecdotes that Rahman shared about SPB, the music teacher also spoke about his interaction with SPB during the recording of Red soundtracks. “My other memories with him … when we recorded my first Red recording Kadhal Rojave. She walked into the studio and the first thing she said was’ How can this studio produce a movie song? So I smiled at him and he came back after the film’s premiere and said, ‘You’ve shown that music can be produced anywhere. It’s what you do with him, ‘”Rahman said in the video.
1992 film Red marked AR Rahman’s debut as a songwriter. It was the first of many SPB-Rahman projects together. By the time Rahman began in 1992, SP Balasubrahmanyam was already a huge player in the music industry – by then he had won four of his six national awards. SPB sang three songs on the Tamil soundtrack of Red – Rukkumani Rukkumaniand the duo and solo versions of Kaadhal Rojave. On the Hindi soundtrack, he sang two duets: Yeh Haseen Waadiyan and a version of Red Jaaneman (the second version was sung by Hariharan).
“He will learn a song in 15 minutes, sing it in 10 minutes and go to the next recording. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a singer. So fast, so professional, so humble,” added AR Rahman. . Check out the full video here:
