Shiv Sena’s leader Sanjay Raut said on Wednesday that the current uproar of thousands of farmers will come to a conclusion within minutes if the government so wishes.
“If the government wants it, it could end the problem by sitting down with the farmers in half an hour,” Raut told the ANI news agency. The parliamentarian also suggested the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “resolve the confrontation in five minutes.”
“If the Prime Minister intervenes himself, it will be resolved in five minutes. Modi ji is such a great leader that everyone will listen to him. You start the talk yourself and see the miracle that happens, ”said the leader of Shiv Sena.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana are protesting near Delhi demanding the repeal of three controversial agricultural laws passed by Parliament in September. Farmers have argued that the laws will reduce their profits and give corporations greater control.
The protest has entered its third week, but there are no signs of a resolution to the confrontation between the farmers’ unions and the government. Five rounds of talks have been held so far, but the stalemate continues. While the government says it can hold more rounds of talks, farmers’ organizations are determined with their demand that all three laws be repealed.
Enacted in September, the three agricultural laws have been projected by the Center as major reforms in the agricultural sector that will eliminate intermediaries and allow farmers to sell anywhere in the country. However, farmers’ organizations have expressed fear that it will pave the way to remove the minimum support price (MSP) cushion and eliminate mandis, leaving them at the mercy of large corporations.
