NEW DELHI: The entire Muslim community cannot be held accountable for the “crime” of one group, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said Thursday, reacting to the cases of Muslims accused of the streak in the Covid-19 cases after the Tablighi Jamaat congregation here, and claimed that most members of the minority community have condemned the group’s action.
In an interview with PTI, Naqvi also expressed his confidence that Muslims will abide by the closing guidelines during Ramzan’s holy month.
He said that across India, imams, Ulema and Muslim organizations have unanimously decided that during Ramzan (the Islamic holy month), Muslims will not congregate in mosques, religious sites and perform all rituals like ‘Iftaar’ (breaking the fasting) and ‘taraweeh’ (special prayers) at home taking into account the rules of social distancing.
Naqvi said he has spoken to waqf state board officials, social and religious leaders, imams about adherence to the blockade and social distancing guidelines during the Ramzan month beginning Friday or Saturday night and which have begun to create awareness among people.
When asked about some people who blame Muslims for the spread of the pandemic after a large number of cases related to the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamudddin were found here, Naqvi said the whole community cannot be held accountable. for the “crime” of an organization or a person.
