It seems that the iPhone 12 will have to go through a lot of trouble to prove its worth. The latest experiment that has occurred is a durability test comparing the strength of the iPhone 12 coated with a new ceramic shield to that of the iPhone 11. Simply put, the iPhone 12 is better built to withstand pressure than the iPhone 11. But the also worth noting is the difference in the amount of pressure both devices can withstand before breaking.
IPhone 12 vs iPhone 11 screen resistance
MobileReviewsEh’s test used a force gauge to determine the pressure required to break the screen. The iPhone 11 went through it first and broke at 352 Newtons of pressure. The iPhone 12 was noticeably tougher and required 443 Newtons of pressure before giving way. The cobweb, or the crack pattern on the screen, was also much finer on the iPhone 12 even though it cracked at higher pressure.
iPhone 12 vs iPhone 11 scratch resistance
The video also compared the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 on their varying promise of scratch resistance. They were subjected to a test based on the principle of the Mohs mineral hardness scale, which usually involves a scraping kit to determine which materials can scratch a substance and rate it accordingly. Electronics manufacturers also use it to test other displays, such as LCD and OLED panels on televisions. In smartphones, it has been used to test the resistance of Corning’s Gorilla Glass, the ubiquitous protection on the screens of mobile devices.
The iPhone 11 was slightly scratched at point 6 and much more prominent at point 7. But the new iPhone 12 withstood point 6 without scratches and was slightly scratched at point 7, proving to be more scratch resistant than the iPhone 11 from last year. The material from point 8 left deep and clearly visible marks on both phones. The video also noted that the aluminum sides of the iPhone 12 were much better at resisting scratches from things like coins and keys than the brighter stainless steel sides of the iPhone 12 Pro, but it was on par with the iPhone 11. The panel The glass on the back of iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 is scratched at point 7 and the sapphire glass layer of the camera lenses is scratched at point 8. In conclusion, the ceramic layer of iPhone 12 makes That its screen is much harder and scratch resistant than the iPhone 11, but the rest of its materials resist scratches as well as the iPhone 11 does, and not better.
