The digital health card will not be mandatory for the Covid-19 vaccine, clarifies the ministry of health

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India will ensure rapid delivery of the vaccine through its existing digital network and the new digital health ID, the health ministry has clarified that ID will not be required to access the vaccine.

As of now, under the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM), digital identification is not mandatory and will not be in the future, said Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan.

“The NDHM, as it exists today, does not make a digital ID or health ID mandatory to receive service under the digital ecosystem that NDHM is creating. To say that it would be mandatory for vaccination and that those without medical identification would be deprived is probably not the correct interpretation, ”Bhushan said.

“It would be almost like an electoral scenario where multiple identifications are prescribed in advance so that no one is deprived of the benefits of voting on the day of the election or of vaccination on the designated day,” added the secretary. Addressing a meeting of the government’s leading health and research experts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently warned that the vaccine delivery system may take a leaf from the modus operandi of the Election Commission of India in conducting elections. .

The NDHM was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, where he said that all those enrolled in the mission will obtain a medical ID that will facilitate access to medical services.
