A day after celebrating his birthday, veteran congressional leader Motilal Vora passed away on Monday at the age of 93. The former Prime Minister of Madhya Pradesh had tested positive for Covid-19 in October and was admitted to AIIMS in the national capital.

His family told PTI that he passed away after complications after COVID-19.

Born in 1927, Vora worked in various newspapers before joining politics. He served as the Congressional party treasurer for many years before Ahmed Patel took office two years ago. Vora, a loyal loyalist of the Gandhi family, had served several terms as a member of the Rajya Sabha and was also the governor of Uttar Pradesh. He also served as Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Civil Aviation of the Union in the regime of Congress in the center.

PTI reported that Vora was admitted to the Escorts Hospital in Okhla here a few days ago with a urinary infection. He also had a lung infection and was put on a respirator, his family said. He will be cremated in Chhattisgarh, where his body will be taken later in the day or Tuesday.

He was a member of the Rajya Sabha of Chhattisgarh until April this year. Vohra was also the general secretary (administration) of the AICC prior to the recent reorganization of the party by then-party president Sonia Gandhi.

Several congressional leaders had tested positive for coronavirus in the recent past. Veteran congressional leaders such as Ahmed Patel and Tarun Gogoi died due to Covid-19.
