UNITED NATIONS: the Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guterres has expressed his sadness at the loss of life and destruction in India and Bangladesh by The Cyclone Amphan and commended to the governments, responders and communities for their “preventive” work to help people and ensure their safety.
“The Secretary-General is saddened by the loss of lives and the destruction as a result of Cyclone Amphan in India and Bangladesh. He extends his deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones, and wishes those injured and affected by the disaster a speedy recovery,” the UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, said in a statement Sunday.
Guterres, congratulated the governments, responders and communities for their “preemptive work to make sure the people ahead of the storm and to meet their immediate needs after you”, saying that the UN is ready to support these efforts.
The Secretary-General expressed his solidarity with the people of India and Bangladesh, who are facing the effects of a devastating cyclone, while also responding to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the statement said.
