The Covid-19 vaccine will not be mandatory: Joe Biden

US President-elect Joe Biden said Friday that Americans will not be forced to receive the coronavirus vaccine and that he is willing to get publicly vaccinated to allay any concerns about its efficacy and safety.

“I don’t think they should be mandatory. I would not require it to be mandatory, but I would do everything in my power just as I don’t think masks have to be mandatory across the country, “Biden told reporters at a news conference in Wilmington, Delaware.

Biden was responding to a question about whether the Covid-19 vaccine would be made mandatory.

Biden, who will take office on January 20, said he will make sure the vaccine is free and available and that any follow-up on the vaccine is free and available in relation to any health complications arising from it.

“I will do everything in my power as President of the United States to encourage people to do the right thing and, when they do, to show that it matters. That is why I said in my inaugural speech that I am going to ask people to commit to wearing a mask for 100 days, not because I ask for it for any reason to punish, this is not a political issue, “he said.

“It has become one. But if people do it for 100 days in the middle of what will continue to be a raging crisis and the vaccine can be distributed, they will see deaths drop to the limit, “he said.

“They are going to see that hundreds of thousands of people do not get sick; and I hope they will be inclined later to say that it’s okay, it’s worth the patriotic duty to move on and protect other people, “Biden said.

On Friday, the United States recorded 2,861 new deaths. It has seen more than 14 million confirmed cases in total and more than 275,000 deaths.

Biden said he is willing to get vaccinated in public to allay any concerns about its efficacy and safety.

“I think taking the vaccine and having people see me take that vaccine is going to give some confidence,” Biden said, responding to a question, adding that what bothers him the most are the wild claims the Trump administration makes about what he’s like. this. is going to go

“Trust was diminishing in all areas and in the American people in general, but particularly in this administration with the African-American and Latino community, what I heard from my friends in the community who are not blocks from here as we are, is that, “We’re not going to be the guinea pigs. We’re not going to be the guinea pigs. “Well, the fact of the matter is that they won’t be,” he said.

“You are going to see tens of millions of Americans taking the vaccine and you are going to see the president of the United States and three of the four living former presidents taking it publicly as well. It will take some effort to rebuild trust in science because so far it has dropped so much in this administration, ”Biden said.
