Mumbai:
Bitter criticism from two courts for the mishandling of the Kangana Ranaut and Arnab Goswami cases summed up the failure of the Uddhav Thackeray regime in the state last year, former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said today.
“Uddhav Thackeray’s year is summed up in two court decisions … the court gave a good ear … the Supreme Court issued a strong decision. It appears that the machinery of government is being misused,” said Fadnavis in Mumbai at a press meeting today.
He was referring to the setback suffered by the state government in two cases involving the Bollywood actor and the news anchor: Courts criticized the Maharashtra government for its perception of rough handling of issues.
“We are not in line with Arnab Goswami or Kanagna Ranaut all the time. But the way the government treated them, we do not maintain it at all,” Fadnavis said at the meeting to mark the completion of Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (Maharashtra Development Front) first year.
The former prime minister also singled out Thackeray for his alleged “threats.”
“I have not seen a Chief Minister threatening so much. His statements do not fit the Chief Minister’s chair … He should realize that no one remains after speaking this kind of language,” Fadnavis said.
He was referring to Thackeray’s interview with Shiva Sena spokesperson Saamna, published on Friday, in which he criticized the BJP without naming him for allegedly targeting his son, Aaditya Thackeray, in the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
“If you come after families and children, remember that you also have families and children. It is not clean. We know how to straighten it, roast it,” said the Chief Minister.
The Shiv Sena and the BJP contested the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections together, but the alliance fell apart over sharing the position of Chief Minister. The Shiv Sena, who won 56 seats, later joined the NCP and Congress to form the government.
