A court on Friday requested a status report from Delhi police in connection with the search conducted at the premises of the office of defender Mehmood Pracha, a lawyer representing some of the defendants in the riot cases in the northeast. from Delhi.
The court was hearing a request from the lawyer in which he said that the investigating officer (IO) threatened him with filing a false case against him.
In addition to requesting the status report before January 5, the court also ordered the IO of the case – in relation to which the search was carried out on Thursday – to remain before it on December 27, the next hearing date, along with the entire audience. video footage of any record made by him at the Pracha office premises.
The court approved the instructions after Attorney Pracha submitted that a search was conducted in his office from 12 noon on December 24 to approximately 3:00 a.m. on December 25 and in accordance with the law, the IO should have immediately hinted about the search and seized items from the appropriate magistrate.
However, it maintained that the same was not done and therefore submitted a request in this regard.
Mr. Pracha further claimed that the entire search was videotaped in accordance with a court order and that he was entitled to a copy of the video.
“The applicant has also declared that a Rajiv and the IO have threatened to present a false case against him.
“Consequently, the applicant has requested continued follow-up of the case,” the court noted.
The court ordered the IO to submit a response to Pracha’s request.
“Listen. Recording examined. IO must file a response to the request … by December 27. IO has further instructions to remain in court along with the full video footage of any searches made by him at the offices of the applicant”. Said Magistrate Anshul Singhal.
The judge also ordered the IO to “present a status report” on the case and present it to the corresponding court on January 5. “
Delhi police alleged that lawyer Pracha forged documents and instigated a man to make a false statement in connection with a case related to violence in northeast Delhi in February this year.
Lawyer Pracha has been representing various defendants and whistleblowers in the violence in North East Delhi.
Several cases of violence were recorded in northeast Delhi, in which at least 53 people died and several more were injured.
