Harsh Vardhan said work to build 75 super specialty hospitals in the country is progressing at a rapid pace

Indore:

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Friday that the COVID-19 recovery rate in the country has improved to 76.28 percent, but added that the pandemic should not be taken lightly.

He said this by virtually inaugurating a Rs 237 million super specialty hospital built by the Center in Indore, which is the hardest hit district in Madhya Pradesh in terms of coronavirus infection count and deaths.

“The national COVID-19 recovery rate has reached 76.28 percent, while the death rate has dropped to 1.82 percent, which was the lowest in the world,” he said.

Nearly four million tests have been performed on people.

Of those, nine lakh were used up on Thursday alone, he said. “Although our country is better equipped to deal with the viral infection than the rest of the world, we must not take the pandemic lightly,” he said.

Through a video conferencing feature, he urged leaders to educate people in their area about the disease and motivate them to follow government guidelines to stop the spread of the disease.

“I have full faith that if we all work together, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we will succeed in the fight against coronavirus,” the minister said.

He added that work to build 75 super specialty hospitals in the country was progressing at a rapid pace.

On the situation of the pandemic in Madhya Pradesh, he said that the number of cases was large in four or five places and that the Center will focus more on them.

Mr. Vardhan said that efforts are underway to open a branch of the National Center for Disease Control in Bhopal this year.

According to him, the state government has made an area of 12,000 square feet available to the Center for the installation of this branch.

The facility will have a laboratory to verify and conduct research on diseases, including COVID-19, he said, adding that with the help of the central government, 14 new medical schools are being established in MP.
