The new coronavirus is not a deadly disease and the government must alleviate fears associated with it as part of measures to lift the national blockade, Congressman Rahul Gandhi said on Friday.

Addressing journalists through a video conference on the observations made by the party’s internal committee, Gandhi said: “Locking does not mean turning the key on and off.” It requires a psychological change. Openness in itself is a transition. “

Explaining the same thing, he said, “The disease is dangerous for some categories of people. It is dangerous for the elderly, for those who have diabetes, hypertension, etc. But other than that, it is not a dangerous disease. So we have to do a psychological change in people’s minds. Nowadays, people are very scared. The government, if it wants to open up, will have to turn this fear into a feeling of trust. “

Gandhi, who has held constant talks with public intellectuals about the virus pandemic and its aftermath, also stressed the need to “reduce the pain of migrant workers.”

“If you have a daily salary, you have no other choice, but you (the government) have to give them a choice. A conversation between the states must take place with empathy towards the migrants and the Center must supervise them. The pain must be reduced” , he told reporters.

“We are in a state of emergency. The idea that we can let our job creators drown is not feasible. We have to build a wall so that they can fight what is coming. We have to build financial support from them, “he added.

The congressional leader also sought transparency about the Center’s strategy to reopen the country and the economy.

“We need to understand how they plan to open the blockade and what will be the criteria for it. Migrants need support and money now and today. Micro, small and medium-sized companies need help immediately, not tomorrow, “he said, referring to the Aurangabad train accident in which 16 migrant workers lost their lives.

Gandhi also said the government must take quick action or “the loss of jobs will turn into a tsunami.”

Reiterating the need to decentralize power, Gandhi said: “Our top ministers complain that the Center is deciding on the coronavirus areas. This should be done by local governments. “

“The Center must immediately transfer Rs 65 billion to the bank accounts of the poor and migrant population to provide them with financial support in these difficult times. There has to be a conversation between the states and the Center to oversee this, “he said.
