Core teams to investigate flaws in the control of coronavirus disease and allegations of coronavirus blockade violations will be sent to three more states, the government said today amid a bitter dispute with West Bengal.

The three states are Gujarat, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

The internal affairs ministry said the situation is “especially serious” in the main districts of critical or emerging areas such as Ahmedabad and Surat in Gujarat, Thane in Maharashtra, Hyderabad in Telangana and Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

The government said the Interministerial Central Teams (IMCT) will focus on a variety of topics, including compliance and implementation of closure measures in accordance with the revised consolidated guidelines, the preparation of health infrastructure, the safety of professionals. of the health and conditions of the aid camps for work and poor people.

IMCTs will be chaired by additional secretarial rank officers and comprised of specialists in public health and disaster management.

Earlier this week, the center had sent six IMCTs, two to Maharashtra and West Bengal, and one to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

The Mumbai-Pune core team has also been asked to expand its inspection activity to the Thane district in Maharashtra.

Sharing the comments of the IMCTs sent to Mumbai and Indore this week, MHA Punya official Salila Srivastava said that “the Indore team has reported that there are 171 containment areas in the city, of which 20 are highly critical.”

The official added that the team visited critical points and had a detailed discussion with the teams involved in tracking contacts, etc. “The team discovered that test kits, PPE, masks and other suitable safety equipment were available. The blockade is being properly followed and the safety of health infrastructure and the safety of health workers are guaranteed, ”added Srivastava.

He said the Indore team also interacted with farmers, the disabled, merchants, NGOs, medical schools, migrant workers in camps, among other stakeholders. Indore’s team, Srivastava added, found that the government has provided a facility whereby farmers can sell their produce on MSP without having to go to mandis, decongesting them.

The Mumbai IMCT went to the Dharavi slums and suggested installing portable toilets there to increase the number of community toilets, as slum dwellers have to go out to use very few community toilets.

Srivastava said the Mumbai team also suggested organizing an institutional quarantine for 2,000-3,000 people; to increase the testing capacity and increase the strength of the surveillance teams with volunteers. The team also discussed the provision of medical facilities for non-Covid patients.

In West Bengal, core teams were allowed to visit the containment areas after a warning from the Union’s home secretary, Ajay Bhalla. The teams had complained to the home ministry that the local administration was not cooperating with them.

The Trinamool Congress had accused the Center of attacking states ruled by opposition parties, asking “why no teams were sent to Uttar Pradesh or Gujarat.”

Congress leader Ahmed Patel had said that a core team should also be dispatched to Gujarat and that the exercise should not be limited to selected states.
