New Delhi:
The government will consider reversing the suspension of eight Rajya Sabha members only after they apologize for their behavior in the Upper House, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said today.
The claim came after several opposition parties, led by Congress, staged a Rajya Sabha strike demanding that the suspension of eight members be revoked.
Congress was the first to leave the Chamber and later joined by members of the Aam Aadmi Party, TMC and the Left parties.
“We will consider lifting the suspension only after the suspended members apologize for their behavior in Rajya Sabha,” Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters outside Parliament.
“We expected Congress to oppose such rebellious behavior by opposition members in Rajya Sabha,” he said.
What kind of policy is this that a tweet comes from abroad and parliamentarians behave like this, said the minister, apparently referring to the tweets of Rahul Gandhi, who is out of the country accompanying his mother Sonia Gandhi to her medical checkup.
“We have never seen a congressional deputy dancing on Rajya Sabha’s table and tearing papers,” Prasad said.
He also claimed that the government had a clear majority in Rajya Sabha for passing the farm laws on Sunday.
