DUBAI: pacemaker from India Bhuvneshwar Kumar He says that a bowler’s ability to deliver what he is good at is just as important as introducing new variations to his game.
Bhuvneshwar, who will be seen in orange Hyderabad sunrises jersey in the IPLHe said years of experience with the Indian team have changed him as a bowler.
“I have definitely changed as a bowler in recent years. Most importantly, I have gained experience playing, I have learned variations,” Bhubaneswar told the IPL website.
“I don’t think it’s always about adding to your arsenal, it’s also about being good at what you do,” he added.
The senior running back from India suffered an injury in 2019 when he also struggled with a hamstring injury during the World Cup. He walked midway during the high-profile match against Pakistan in Manchester.
After missing the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh, Bhuvneshwar returned to the T20I against the West Indies. In January, he underwent a sports hernia operation.
“It’s great to be back, personally I’ve been away from this game for a while, first I got injured and then this pandemic and lockout. I’m very excited about IPL. I can’t wait to get back into action.”
Speaking about the SRH setup, Bhuvneshwar said that since the bowling unit has been together for the past two to three years, the players get on well.
“As a senior bowler, my approach will be similar to that of the last few years. I will try to help and share my experience.
“The great thing about this bowling group is that we’ve played together for the last 2-3 years, so we understand each other pretty well. That makes things easier for a captain or veteran bowler like me.”
The experienced pacemaker, who led SRH in a few games when the captain Kane williamson was injured, said Rashid Khan is an asset to the team.
“Rashid has been amazing in this format around the world. He has been playing in different leagues, performing consistently and having him in the mix is always a delight for any team.
“Not only with the ball, he has also been incredible with the bat. So yeah, it’s an advantage for any team.”
The thirteenth edition of the IPL moved out of India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league will be played at three venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates from September 19 to November 10.
Bhuvneshwar feels the IPL is the best possible tournament to get the country’s cricket going after a coronavirus-induced lockdown, adding that he will miss playing in front of the local crowd.
“I don’t think there can be a better tournament than IPL in India to start with cricket and I’m sure it will bring joy to the people of India.”
“I am definitely going to miss playing in India, especially in front of our home crowd, they have supported us for many years, I think they are one of the main motivating factors for us.”
