Six days after a 12-year-old girl disappeared from a village in the Bulandshahr district of western Uttar Pradesh, her body was found buried in a well near the home of a villager, who is now on the run. Bulandshahr police said the girl was working in a field on the night of February 25 with her family members when she felt thirsty and said she was going home for water.
“The parents had filed a complaint about a missing person on February 28. She was working in the fields with her mother and two sisters about 100 meters from the house where her body was recovered,” the head of the Bulandshahr Police, Santosh Kumar Singh.
“She went home to drink water. But when she didn’t come back, her sisters called her, but there was no answer. The family assumed she had gone home and went back to working in the fields. However, later they did. No I found it there and started looking for it, “Singh said.
“At night, when they arrived at the same place, they found a man who was drunk but could not locate the girl. They continued looking for her for two or three days before going to the police on February 28,” police said. said the boss.
“When people started looking for the girl today together with the police, they found a place inside a house where it looked like a hole had been dug. When it was dug, they found the body of the girl. We are conducting further investigations. This house it belongs to a father-son duo. The father is in our custody, while the son runs away, “said the police chief.
It is unclear if the police also searched for the girl earlier, or if there was a two-day period when the missing person’s report was submitted and a police search began.
Images from the scene showed the girl’s body dumped out of the dug well, surrounded by hundreds of villagers and police personnel. Another clip from the scene showed senior government and police officials walking through the fields near the village.
“It appears that the girl has been killed. The possibility of sexual assault as well cannot be denied. The strictest possible measures will be taken,” Bulandshahr District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar told reporters.
The main suspect is a 22-year-old man named Harendra, who allegedly works as a laborer in Delhi and was at home the night the girl disappeared.
