At a time when it is involved in a fierce clash with China’s PLA in eastern Ladakh, the Indian military on Wednesday provided food, warm clothing and medical assistance to three Chinese citizens who had been lost in freezing temperatures at an altitude 17,500 feet. in a border area in northern Sikkim, authorities said.
Army personnel deployed to the area also guided Chinese citizens, including a woman, to return to the Chinese side and reach their destination. The humanitarian gesture of the Army came when it comes to aggressive behavior by Chinese troops along the Royal Line of Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
The Army, in a statement, said the three Chinese nationals were lost in the Plateau area of northern Sikkim.

“Realizing the danger to the lives of Chinese citizens in freezing temperatures, the Indian army soldiers immediately approached and provided medical assistance including oxygen, food and warm clothing to protect them from the vagaries of extreme altitude and harsh weather conditions. ” the Army said.
He said that the Indian troops also gave them proper guidance to reach their destination, after which they returned.
“Chinese citizens expressed their gratitude to India and the Indian army for their prompt assistance,” the army said.
Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a bitter border row in eastern Ladakh for the past four months. Tensions had escalated after 20 members of the Indian army were killed in a fierce clash between the two sides in the Galwan Valley on June 15. The Chinese military has not yet disclosed the casualties it suffered in the clash.
Tensions flared again in the region after China tried unsuccessfully to occupy Indian territory on the southern shore of Lake Pangong a week ago.
Following the attempts, India occupied a series of strategic heights on the southern shore of Lake Pangong and strengthened its presence in the Finger 2 and Finger 3 areas in the region to thwart any Chinese action. China has strongly opposed India’s move.
India has also sent additional troops and weapons to the sensitive region following China’s transgression attempts.
Defense ministers of the two countries met on the sidelines of a multilateral meeting in Moscow on Friday.
