NEW DELHI: General of the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Bipin Rawat, said on Sunday that armed forces personnel understand that they will have to remain infected with the virus in order to support people and the government while the country fights the coronavirus outbreak.
“When it comes to defense services, we understand our responsibility that at this time when the nation is fighting the Covid-19 threat, defense services must operate beyond mandate and come to the support of our people and government anyway we can, “General Rawat told ANI in an exclusive interview.
“To do so, we must first make sure we stay safe from Covid-19 because if our sailors, soldiers, and airmen are affected by this virus, how are we going to support our people? That’s why we have issued very strict instructions on the social distancing, wearing masks, and ensuring that people requiring quarantine remain quarantined, “CDS said.
He noted that all meetings and conferences are conducted via videoconference. “Our Director General of Medical Services for the Armed Forces (DGAFMS) periodically issues medical instructions to ensure the good health of our soldiers and airmen in these difficult times.”
Stressing that the instructions issued by the “highest body”, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is being followed in letter and spirit to fight the Covid-19 threat and ensure that the Armed Forces remain safe, said: “We are assisting to meetings organized by the Cabinet Secretary and we are attending the meetings of the Ministry of Health. Whatever direction it comes from, it is trickling down to the rank and we make sure that they arrive at the right time and in the right way. This is very important for us to maintain strict discipline and patience. ”
“There would be problems in these difficult times, but we have to learn to live with them. It cannot be as always. These are the times when certain instructions have been issued and must be followed if we want to fight the Covid-19 menace. I think that Our nation has done well. We will continue to do well if the instructions issued from time to time are followed, “he added.
General Rawat, referring to the blockade, said that this is not the time to be impatient.
“We know that when the country is closed and people are told to stay inside, they tend to get impatient. This is not the time to be impatient. Patience is very important to ensuring that we continue to be disciplined. armed forces is not very difficult since we are used to being in discipline but keeping patience is the need of the hour, “he said
He further reported: “I am very happy to inform you that all of our people have downloaded the Aarogya Setu application and that if anyone is affected, we could resume it very soon. We could make sure that the spread did not happen.”
