The biannual talks between the director general of the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB), Major General M Shafeenul Islam, and the head of the Border Security Force (BSF), Rakesh Asthana, will begin on Sunday at the BGB headquarters in Pilkhana. in Dhaka. The meeting will last six days and will end on September 18.
This is the 50th meeting of its kind between the director general of the border forces of both nations. Discussions will address topics such as cross-border drug and human trafficking, cross-border crime, activities of Indian insurgent groups in Bangladesh, and counterfeit banknote smuggling.
The BSF delegation will also vigorously raise the issue of cross-border infiltration with its Bangladeshi counterpart.
The Bangladesh Border Guard is expected to raise the issue of the increasing number of deaths on the Indo-Bengali border. BGB has expressed concern about the deaths of unarmed people and said that Bangladesh has attached great importance to border violence, according to the PTI news agency.
BGB’s director of operations, Lt. Col. Fayzur Rahman, while speaking to the Daily Star, an English-language daily based in Dhaka, said that Bangladesh would primarily focus on border killings during the meeting.
He further added: “The entry of waste from India through ICP Akhaura-Agartala [check post] It will also take priority in the talks as we have been working hard to stop the entry of such debris, ”while speaking to the Daily Star.
Sector commanders from the BSF, staff from the Bureau of Narcotics Control and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also join BSF DG Rakesh Asthana in Dhaka.
The biannual meeting has been held since 1975 in order to discuss the management of 4,096 km of borders. These talks took place once in Bangladesh and once in Delhi.
