An order issued by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday stated that the ban on 4G internet services in the Union Territory (UT) has been extended until January 8, except in the districts of Udhampur and Ganderbal. Previously, the administration imposed a ban on 4G services until December 25.
Friday’s order said that Internet speed will continue to be restricted to 2G, apart from the Udhampur and Ganderbal districts, where Internet connectivity will be available without speed-related restrictions. “The aforementioned instructions will take effect on December 26, 2020 and will remain in effect until January 8, 2021, unless they are modified earlier,” he added.
Further advocating the disruption of 4G services in Jammu and Kashmir, the order noted that there was information that large numbers of terrorists were trying to infiltrate from across the border and high-speed internet sidewalks had blocked their attempts. to do so.
Meanwhile, the head of the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) and sponsor of the National Conference (NC), Farooq Abdullah, on Thursday called on the Center to restore 4G immediately, adding that the people of Kashmir (students, entrepreneurs and others) was suffering due to restrictions.
“We ask the government to restore 4G immediately. It is unfortunate that the people of this state, our children, students, businessmen are suffering because now everything is online. When the Prime Minister talks about 5G, we don’t even have 4G. This should be restored as quickly as possible, ”he said.
Mobile internet services had been suspended in Jammu and Kashmir since August 5, 2019 due to security reasons when the central government repealed Article 370 and Article 35A and JK went from a state to a UT on October 31, 2019.
