The 2014 tour of England was not good for Virat Kohli. Kohli had a bad hitting streak throughout the test series and was only able to score 134 runs averaging 13.40 in 5 games. The Indian batsman has often remembered it as the most difficult phase of his cricket career. It took Kohli a while to regain his usual form, and veteran West Indies cricketer Denesh Ramdin recalled the 2014 ODI series against India in which captain MS Dhoni helped Kohli regain form.
In an interview for cricket.com, Ramdin said: “I remember a case where Virat (Kohli) was not getting runs, he had just come out of a series in England. We were there for a one-day series and we took Virat out once or twice for little money. “

Kohli was fired for 2 runs in the first ODI, and Dhoni pushed Kohli to no. 4 in the next game, in which the Indian batter scored 62 runs, showing signs of form. The third ODI was dropped and Kohli returned to his no. 3 batting position to score a ton in 4th ODI.
“He (Dhoni) did not drop it. He said look, instead of hitting number three, I’m going to put you at four or five. In one game, he (Kohli) came in at number four or five and scored a century (half a century, actually) and that was it. He returned to his normal state, ”added Ramdin.

Speaking about Dhoni’s captaincy, the former Windies hitter added: “Sometimes, it’s important to understand players, not dismiss them. Other teams could have gotten rid of their players, he still backed Virat. I think he (Kohli) is going to be one of the best hitters to ever play the game. His passion also for the game and you have to give a lot of credit to Dhoni ”.
