Shortly after Alibag police arrested Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami for instigating the suicide of 53-year-old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in 2018, his wife and daughter Akshata and Adnya Naik they thanked the Maharashtra police for taking action in the case.
“We cannot forget the year 2018. We want to thank the Maharashtra police for supporting a daughter from Maharashtra,” Akshata told reporters.
“My husband in his suicide note had mentioned three names, but no action was taken against them. Arnab Goswami is behind my husband’s death and I ask every Indian not to help him. The action of the Maharashtra police is justice for us, ”said Akshata Naik.
Adnya said: “My father spent his money, energy, blood and sweat on the project. Despite all that, Goswami made sure that my father did not receive his fees. He continually threatened my father saying that he would end his career and mine. ”
Adnya also brought accusations against the former investigating officer in the Suresh Wadare case.
“Between February and March 2019 we had gone to the Alibag police station to collect my father’s suicide note and the chemical analysis report. Investigative Officer Suresh Wadare asked us to sign a paper and when we read it we discovered that they had mentioned a line on the paper that said ‘We have filed this complaint for revenge and now we want to drop our case’. I remember this line but not all of the content. After reading the newspaper, I tried to take a picture of what the officer objected to and then he tore up the page and asked us to leave, ”Adnya said.
Adnya also alleged that Arnaab was treated with privilege when he did not deserve it.
“Why was Arnab given privilege as a defendant? Is it some god? His statement was recorded in the joint PC office at the Mumbai Police Commissioner. At that point we met former Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve. We met Anil Paraskar, SP Raigad several times and also wrote to PMO India. But nobody helped us. ”
She said her father’s case had been closed and that she and her mother weren’t even aware of it.
“On the anniversary of my father’s death, May 5, 2020, we decided to speak out for justice and uploaded some videos. A few days later, Republic issued a statement on its Twitter account saying that the police had filed a closure report in this case. It was then that we learned that our case had been closed. The investigation was screwed up earlier, ”Adnya added.
He claimed that they had filed four complaints after they began receiving threats. “We have filed four complaints in 2020. Two in Murbad and two in Dadar Police Station after my mother and I started receiving threats and people started following us,” Adnya said.
When asked by a journalist which political party had supported them, Akshata said: “We don’t want to make it a political issue. We just want justice and a fair investigation. “
