Thalaiva fans were nervous after Tamil superstar Rajinikanth indicated in a meeting with officials at his forum Rajini Makkal Mandram that he could contest the Tamil Nadu assembly elections scheduled for May 2021.
Rajinikanth met with Mandram’s district secretaries at the actor’s Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai on Monday to discuss the possibility of his entering politics. Mandram, founded by Rajinikanth in 2019, has been viewed by many as a ‘launch vehicle’ and a precursor to a political party.
The actor’s previous attempts to enter politics had been thwarted due to poor health. But the meeting, which came in the wake of Union Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Tamil Nadu, has brought back speculation about the actor’s political future.
The reunion has left Rajini fans excited and many have taken to social media to express their support for Thalaiva.
Many even made strong comparisons to the HBO show ‘Game of Thrones’.
But while many of his fans were hoping for a clear answer on whether the superstar will finally be joining, the reunion has left many wondering when the announcement would finally be made.
Rajinikanth reportedly asked Makkal officials if they were ready to join formal politics in January. “Can we start a political party in January? Are you ready?” asked the actor. Some party representatives said the leader would have a high chance of winning if he began his political journey as soon as possible.
The meeting also saw discussions about whether he should enter the political arena only with another party. “Some district chiefs are not working satisfactorily. Only when you work hard can we go to the next level. I will decide whether to start the party,” Rajinikanth said, according to sources.
