SRINAGAR: After security forces eliminated wanted terrorist Riyaz Naikoo in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, Pakistan’s terrorist group Hizb-ul-Mujahideen is more likely to replace him with Saifullah as its new commander in Kashmir.
According to intelligence sources, Saifullah, who is listed as one of the top terrorists in the “A ++” category, is more likely to succeed Riyaz Naikoo to fill the gap in the group. As a past medical assistant, he made a name for himself by treating wounded terrorists in encounters with security forces, according to intelligence sources.
He is said to be active in southern Kashmir and to be involved in recruiting Kashmiri youth for jihad. Saifullah “, a Malangpora resident in Pulwama, was part of the Burhan Wani group of 12 terrorists.
Saifullah started as a guide for terrorists in the Pulwama, Tral, Kakapora and Kulgam areas. It has also been active in the city of Srinagar, intelligence sources said.
Riyaz Naikoo, one of Hizbul Mujahideen’s top commanders, was killed on Wednesday (May 6) by security forces in a village in the Pulwama district of Kashmir. Fleeing for eight years, Naikoo was actively involved in brainwashing and recruiting youth in southern Kashmir to join the terror team.
The security forces had launched a massive operation to trap him in Jammu and Kashmir in Pulwama. The meeting, which started late Tuesday night, continued until Wednesday afternoon.
Riyaz Naikoo reportedly arrived at his native home in the Beighpora village of Pulwama when security forces, including the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the Central Reserve Police (CRPF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Local police, sealed all the entry and exit points of the town.
With Naikoo, who was carrying a reward of Rs 12 lakh on his head, two other terrorists were killed in a separate encounter in the Sharshali Khrew area of Awantipora, where the encounter began late Tuesday night.
