Shimla:
Himachal Pradesh police arrested 10 tourists and seized three vehicles for obstructing traffic inside the Atal tunnel in Rohtang, a police official said.
Tourists stopped their vehicles inside the tunnel, played music and began dancing, causing a traffic jam on Thursday, said Kullu Police Superintendent Gaurav Singh.
The 10 tourists from Delhi, most of them in their twenties and thirties, were arrested and their three cars seized, he said.
They have been registered in articles 188 (disobedience to the order duly communicated by the public servant) and 270 (malignant act that can spread an infection or life-threatening disease) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in view of the pandemic of coronavirus.
The Atal Tunnel, the longest tunnel in the world at an altitude of 10,040 feet, has become a tourist destination since Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened it to the public in October.
The 9.02 km underpass under the 13,058 foot high Rohtang Pass connects Lahaul of the Lahaul-Spiti district and the Manali district of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh.
