Telugu television actress Kondapalli Sravani allegedly committed suicide at her home in Hyderabad, police said Wednesday.
The 26-year-old artist was found hanged at her residence in Madhuranagar on Tuesday. Relatives said she went to her room and closed the door. They thought she was taking a bath, but since she didn’t come out for a long time, they opened the door and found her hanging. They transferred her to a hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
The police transferred the body for autopsy and resumed the investigation.
While the family alleged that she resorted to extreme step due to harassment from her ex-boyfriend Devaraj Reddy, police said the family had admonished her for moving with him even after filing a police case against him a few months ago.
SR Nagar Circle inspector Narasimha Reddy said her preliminary investigations revealed that Sravani had been detained by family members for re-moving in with Devaraj and after an argument with her mother and brother about the issue Tuesday night. , went to his room and hanged himself.
The police sent a team to the city of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh to arrest Devaraj. “Since Sravani’s family is making an accusation, we will arrest and question him,” added the Circle Inspector.
The police officer said that Devaraj was arrested over a complaint from Sravani in June that he was pestering her to marry him.
Family members alleged that Sravani took an extreme step because the police did not act on his complaint against Devaraj.
Devaraj had come into contact with the actress through Tik-Tok a few months ago. The friendship between the two turned into love.
Sravani’s family said they started harassing her for money. Devaraj had threatened to post her personal photos and videos on social media, the family said. Devaraj had agreed to delete the photos by paying 1 lakh rupees and they had paid the money in installments through Google Pay.
However, he allegedly continued to harass her even after receiving 1 lakh rupees and she filed a complaint against him at the SR Nagar Police Station on June 22.
However, the police claimed that no videos or photographs were mentioned in the complaint.
Sravani had played roles in popular series such as “Manasu Mamatha” and “Mounaragam”.
