“My father, my uncles and other members of the family brutally murdered my husband. I will never forgive them. ”
In an alleged honor killing case, a 26-year-old interior designer was allegedly abducted and killed by members of his wife’s family on Thursday night in Kistaiahguda of the Sangareddy district.
The young woman, Hemnath, was in a relationship with Avanthi Reddy, 23, an engineering graduate, for about eight years, and the couple married at the official Deputy Registrar, Quthbullapur, on June 11 this year, against of the desire of his family members. .
After their marriage, Hemanth and Avanti lived in a rented house in the TNGO neighborhood of Gachibowli. Her parents live in Chandanagar.
On Thursday, Avanthi’s parents, Laxma Reddy and Archana Reddy, along with their maternal uncles Vijayender Reddy, Yugandhar Reddy and other family members, went to the couple’s home to chat. “Around 2.30, Hemanth called his parents to inform them about the sudden visit of his relatives and asked them to come to his house as soon as possible,” said Madhapur, DCP M Venkateshwarlu, in charge. The Hindu.
By the time Hemanth’s parents, Murali and Laxmi Rani, arrived in the TNGO settlement, they had forced the young couple into a car saying they were being taken to Avanthi’s parents’ home in Chandanagar, the officer said.
Murali and his wife saw the cars, alerted the police and followed their trail.
“As the car headed towards Outer Ring Road, the young couple managed to jump out of the moving car near the Gopanpally Tanda junction. They started running barefoot. Meanwhile, her uncle Yugandhar Reddy took Hemanth in the car and drove her to Sangareddy, ”said Mr. Venkateshwarlu.
Soon, the police arrived at the scene and arrested the woman’s relatives. They registered a kidnapping case and launched a search operation for Hemanth. “Around 3.30am on Friday, Yugandhar Reddy, who was picked up from Shamirpet, told us that he, along with two other people, tied Hemanth’s hand, strangled him to death and dumped the body near Kistaiahguda in Sangareddy.” said the officer.
Based on his confession, teams were dispatched to the scene to identify and recover the body, which was then taken to the morgue of Osmania General Hospital for autopsy.
The victim’s mother, Laxmi Rani, alleged that members of Avanthi’s family killed her son solely out of “caste sentiment” and financial situation.
“Although we are of a higher caste, we are not rich compared to his (defendant) family,” she said, while waiting for her son’s body in the OGH morgue.
He said that even after the marriage, Avanthi’s father used to call and threaten to kill his son. “We always thought I was angry at them because they married against their will and the problem would subside in a few months, but we never imagined that it would actually kill my son,” he said.
“My father, my uncles and other relatives brutally killed my husband. I will never forgive them, ”said Ms. Avanthi.
She said that when they jumped out of the moving car, bystanders didn’t bother to help her even though she was running and screaming on the road.
“Everyone saw us, but no one reacted. They did not arrest my uncle who was taking Hemanth in a car, ”he said, adding that the police arrived at the scene only after 40 to 50 minutes from the moment they reported the crime.
Mr. Venkateshwarlu said that so far 13 people, including the driver of the car Sahid Patel, have been detained.
