Telangana resumes daily COVID-19 bulletin after 3 days following HC instructions


The Telangana Superior Court ordered the state government to resume the daily bulletins, which would be replaced by weekly updates.

After a three-day lapse, the Telangana government resumed publishing a daily press release on the state of COVID-19 on Friday. The state health authorities, which had stopped issuing the daily press bulletin since Tuesday, resumed the practice at the direction of the Telangana Superior Court.

On Thursday, the court ordered the state government to resume publishing the bulletin within 24 hours for people to get information on a daily basis, as it noted that providing information to people is important, especially when there is a spike in cases in some states. . giving rise to fears of a second wave of the pandemic.

The Director of Public Health, Dr. G Srinivasa Rao, had announced on Tuesday that they would stop issuing the bulletin as the human resources used for it had to be used for COVID-19 vaccination. He said a weekly newsletter will be issued instead of daily information.

The bulletin released Friday shows the state recorded 189 new cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative count to 2.98,453. Two deaths brought the death toll to 1,632. The fatality rate stands at 0.54% compared to the national average of 1.4%. During the past 24 hours, 129 people had recovered, bringing the total to 2,94,911. The state’s recovery rate is 98.81% compared to the national average of 97.2%.

A total of 42,432 tests were performed during the last 24 hours. While government-run laboratories analyzed 38,336 samples, private laboratories performed 4,096 tests.

With this, the accumulated number of tests carried out in the state amounted to 86,18,845. Tests per million inhabitants amounted to 2,31,564.

Greater Hyderabad had the highest number of cases with 31, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (19) and Rangareddy (16). Five districts reported no cases, while in the remaining 25 districts, new cases were in the single digits.

More than 92% of the beds in hospitals treating COVID-19 cases remained empty. Up to 8,197 beds out of 8,577 beds in 62 government hospitals were empty. Also, in 216 private hospitals, 6,924 out of 7,636 beds were vacant.
