HYDERABAD: Telangana witnessed another sharp increase in Covid-19 cases with nearly 1,000 cases in just one day. On Friday, the number of new Covid-19 cases stood at 965, according to a media bulletin published by the health department. In addition, with five more fatalities, the figure rose to 1,706.
The increase in cases has been observed as of March 9, when 189 people tested positive for the infection. While 59,343 residents were screened Friday, the results of 1,927 people are still awaited.
Health Minister Eatala Rajender said Thursday that Telangana is at a critical moment in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic has created a situation of war and there is a great need for health departments and others to rise to the occasion to ensure that there are no deaths from Covid-19 in the coming months,” said the Minister of Health while interacting. with superintendents of teaching hospitals under the Director of Medical Education (DME) and hospitals under Telangana Vaidya Vidhan Parishad.
Meanwhile, apart from the GHMC area, which recorded 254 new cases, a high number of cases continues to be recorded in the neighboring districts of Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy. Of the 965 cases on Friday, 254 were from GHMC, 110 in Medchal Malkajgiri district, followed by 97 in Rangareddy district.
Currently, there are 6,159 active cases of which 2,622 were at home or in institutional isolation. The recovery rate, on the other hand, stood at 97.46% in the state compared to the national average of 93.7%, according to the bulletin.
Reiterating that people should follow appropriate Covid-19 behavior as it is the only way to prevent the second wave of the virus from spreading further, Public Health Director Dr. G Srinivasa Rao said: “The The spread of the Covid-19 virus depends a lot on the precautions that are being taken and the behavior of the general public towards it.
