- DMK Senior Leader EV Velu Wanted by Tax Officials
- The searches were carried out in more than 10 locations, including his home.
- Searches ahead of state elections
Chennai:
DMK senior leader and Tamil Nadu candidate EV Velu was registered today by Income Tax officials, around the same time that his party boss MK Stalin campaigned for him ahead of the state elections on 6 of April.
Income tax officials said the searches were based on “credible cash flow inflows” during the campaign. A tax official in Delhi said searches are also ongoing in Chennai.
The searches were carried out at more than 10 locations, including EV Velu’s home in Tiruvannamalai, his constituency. The 70-year-old is seeking reelection of the constituency.
MP Stalin is in Tiruvannamalai to campaign for Velu, a five-time lawmaker and former Minister of State for Food. The Velu university, where Stalin stayed last night, was also searched.
“Searching the room where DMK chief MK Stalin stayed shows his intention. Nothing has been seized. This will not stop our victory,” said DMK Secretary General Duraimurugan.
Tamil Nadu will vote for a new government next month and the results will be declared on May 2.
