The trailer for Saif Ali Khan’s Amazon Prime Video web series, Tandav, is out now. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the political drama also stars Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Dimple Kapadia, Kritika Kamra, Gauahar Khan, Sarah Jane Dias, Sunil Grover, Dino Morea, Anuup Sonii, Kumud Mishra, and Sandhya Mridul.
The well-cut trailer shows how people of diverse backgrounds interact in their struggle to sit in the highest chair. Saif’s Samar Pratap Singh, who belongs to a political family, hopes to become prime minister. Grover plays his cunning and omniscient assistant. Ayyub is a student leader. Meanwhile, the characters of Kapadia and Mishra want to ascend to the ‘throne’ by any means possible.
The trailer shows us how the lives of these people are interconnected as they build the drama in a more or less predictable way. The actors seem well distributed. The script has been written by Article 15 writer Gaurav Solanki, so I have high hopes. In the end, it will all come down to the leadership of Ali Abbas Zafar. Known for making commercial cinema, it will be interesting to see how he has handled the web series.
Speaking about his character in Tandav, Saif Ali Khan said in a statement: “The entertainment industry in India is undergoing a renaissance and stories like Tandav are at the forefront of this change. As an actor, for me, a good drama and a compelling creation with gray characters is always exciting. As I read about the complexities of my character Samar and immersed myself more deeply into the world of Tandav, I knew I had to play this character. “
The official synopsis of the web series reads: “The charismatic leader of a top-tier political party, Samar Pratap (Saif Ali Khan), feels that he is ready to inherit the presidency of the prime minister after his party wins the elections (Lok Sabha). Samar’s father, the party patriarch and prime minister of the country, Devki Nandan (Tigmanshu Dhulia) is not yet ready to retire. Anuradha, Devki’s (Dimple Kapadia) close associate, Gopal Das (Kumud Mishra) party leader are some of the many other leaders who are deemed fit to sit in the chair. But the chair is never easy. A parallel story unfolds with the idealistic campus activist Shiva (Zeeshan Ayub), who becomes a youth icon overnight while shining at a political event. Shiva wants to bring about change, influence the youth and overthrow the pillars of power. Shiva tastes power for the first time. Shiva and Samar’s lives intersect when national politics meets campus activism. The dance of politics occurs when a series of events expose the deception, manipulation, greed, ambition and violence inherent in all relationships ”.
Tandav will premiere on January 15 on Amazon Prime Video.
