Tamil Nadu announces new relaxations as of December 1: 10 points


Tamil Nadu today extended the Covid-19 lockdown until December 31, 2020 subject to certain relaxations. Extending sidewalks until December 31 in containment zones and for international air travel, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister K Palaniswami called on the public to wear masks and maintain hygiene to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Further easing the restrictions, K Palaniswami said social, political and entertainment events would be allowed in auditoriums and announced the opening of colleges for seniors starting December 7.

1) Beaches, including Chennai Marina Beach and tourist spots, will open to the public after December 14.

2) The pools could operate for training purposes, starting December 1.

3) Undergraduate final year classes for all colleges and universities, including arts, science, technology, engineering, agriculture, fisheries and veterinary medicine, and shelters for them, can begin on December 7 said the Chief Minister.

4) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, K Palaniswami, added that from the same day the classes for UG and the medical and paramedical graduate courses will begin.

5) However, classes for freshmen enrolling during the current 2020-21 academic year would begin on February 1, 2021.

6) Exhibition centers will be allowed to operate for “business-to-business” purposes.

7) Social, political and entertainment programs will be allowed from December 1 to December 31 after obtaining prior permission from the authorities.

8) The number of participants for auditorium events should be limited to a maximum of 200 people or 50 percent of the total seating capacity. Permission must be obtained from the police commissioner in Chennai and the district collectors in the rest of Tamil Nadu for indoor functions.

9) The decision would be made to allow events in open spaces according to the rate of spread of the virus in the coming days.

10) Except for neighboring Puducherry, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, electronic registration will continue to apply to people visiting Tamil Nadu from all other states.

Tamil Nadu reported 1,459 new Covid-19 cases, 1,471 discharges and 9 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases stood at 7,80,505 while the discharges reached 7,57,750 and the death toll stood at 11,703. There are 11,052 active cases in the state.
