Taapsee Pannu breaks silence on TI raids: ‘No longer so sasti’

Taapsee Pannu, whose property was raided by Income Tax Department officials earlier this week, broke his silence on Twitter. He addressed the accusations made against him and even made a joke.

Taapsee said there are no bungalows in his name in Paris, no receipts for ₹Payment of 5 million rupees to her. He even said there was no raid on his property in 2013 either.

“3 days of intense search for 3 things mainly 1. The keys to the” supposed “bungalow that I apparently own in Paris. Because summer holidays are just around the corner. 2. The” supposed “receipt worth 5 million rupees to frame and preserve future release because I have been denied that money before the 3rd. My memory of the 2013 raid that happened to me, according to our honorable finance minister, PS- “it’s not so sasti anymore,” he wrote in his tweet. The postscript was a reaction to the pick that Kangana Ranaut often uses against her.

The Income Tax Department began raids on the homes and offices of Pannu and Kashyap on March 3, as well as their partners, who launched the now-closed production house Phantom Films.

The searches, part of a tax evasion investigation against Phantom Films, carried out at 30 locations in Mumbai and Pune, also covered Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibhasish Sarkar, and some executives from talent management companies and celebrities KWAN and Exceed.

When asked to comment on the raids, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke of the 2013 raids not being a problem and suddenly becoming one now.

“He responds for the hypocrisy or he responds, saying that since then this is happening until now, what happens (with the now),” he said. “In the national interest, we want to know if there is any evasion taking place.”
