Swara Bhasker has investigated former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, who joined JD (U) on Sunday. Better known as Bihar’s own Robinhood, Pandey had vigorously defended Bihar’s chief minister Nitish Kumar, who lobbied for a CBI investigation into the mysterious death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
The 1987 IPS officer joined state ruler JD (U) amid indications that he would challenge the assembly elections starting next month. In response to a tweet about the same thing, he tweeted: “Chaliye yahi tha kisi ke dukhad ant par apna agenda chamkana (Come on … that was #JusticeForSushantSinghRajput Getting opportunistic about someone’s tragic death).”
Pandey joined the party in the presence of Bihar CM, who is also the president of JD (U), less than a week after voluntarily withdrawing from service. His long-awaited induction took place the day after meeting Kumar and he insisted that there was nothing political in their conversation.
The former officer had reminded actress Rhea Chakraborty, Sushant’s girlfriend and main defendant in complicity in the suicide case that the CBI was investigating, of her “auqaat” (status) to question Nitish Kumar, when he suggested that he had Politics behind Bihar government decision to push for a CBI investigation.
Known for speaking his mind despite the limitations that come with the rules governing public officials, Pandey was in the headlines as the Maharashtra and Bihar governments were locked in a tug of war over the investigation of the death of Sushant.

The Bihar DGP had publicly denounced Mumbai municipal authorities for quarantining IPS officer Vinay Tiwari, who had landed in the western metropolis to spearhead the investigation after Sushant’s father filed a FIR, accusing Rea already his relatives to instigate the suicide of the actor.
Sushant was found dead in his Bandra home on June 14. Rhea and her brother Showik are currently in judicial custody for their alleged involvement in a drug case involving Sushant.
