New Delhi:
Actor Swara Bhaskar lashed out at Kangana Ranaut today after the latter’s attack on industry veteran Jaya Bachchan, who spoke out against allegations of drug abuse in the film industry related to the investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. “Disgusting” and “embarrassing” was the way the actor described the comments from Ms. Ranaut, who had woven the casting couch and item number into her tweet attack.
Ms. Bhaskar, who starred alongside Ms. Ranaut in “Tanu Weds Manu,” tweeted, “Keep the dirt on your mind limited to yourself. If you want to abuse me then go ahead … I will gladly hear your nonsense and fight this mud fight with you. Respect for the elderly is the first lesson taught in Indian culture and you are a self-proclaimed nationalist. “
Ms Bachchan, one of the iconic Bollywood actors of the 1970s, had made a statement in parliament yesterday, rebutting actor and fellow MP Ravi Kishan and Kangana Ranaut about drug abuse in the film industry.
Referring to Kangana Ranaut’s comment “the industry is a rogue,” he said. “People who have made a name for themselves in this industry have called it a gutter. I disagree.”
The entire industry, he said, can’t be given a bad name because of a few people.
“I felt really ashamed and ashamed that yesterday one of our Lok Sabha members, who is from the industry, spoke out against the film industry. Jis thaali me khaate hain usi me chched karte hain,” she said, quoting the version. Hindi proverb “Biting the hand that feeds you”.
Ms. Ranaut had reacted sharply, questioning which dish Ms. Bachchan was referring to. A thaali (plate) was offered, tweeted, in exchange for favors that included only a “two-minute role, romantic scene, and article number.”
“I taught feminism to the film industry, I decorated ‘thaali’ ‘with patriotic films. This is my plate, Jaya ji, not yours,” he tweeted in Hindi.
Filmmaker Alankrita Srivastava also called out Kangana Ranaut for her tweet.
“There is nothing feminist in abusing generations of women who have cleared the way for us to enjoy the opportunities we have. Being abusive to women like Indira Jaising and Jaya Bachchan is not right. It is a shame. #SoloDecir,” he tweeted.
Kangana Ranaut, who returned to Manali’s hometown in Himachal Pradesh, was the first to make accusations about drug use in Bollywood following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.
Several prominent actors will be “behind bars” if the Office of Narcotics Control investigates the film industry, said the actress who has been involved in a major dispute with the Maharashtra government over her insecure comment on Mumbai.
His subsequent comparison of the city with Pakistani-occupied Kashmir and the attack on Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and the leaders of the Seine escalated the matter.
The Center, however, said yesterday that the Office of Narcotics Control has found no “actionable input” on any nexus between the people of the film industry and drug traffickers.
