While NCB is expected to convene a key Amritsar link that is critical to the investigation this week, the agency has sought the help of drug enforcement agencies in the US, UK, Canada and Australia to discover suppliers. of cocaine to Mumbai. According to information shared by partner agencies, at least 1,200 kilograms of cocaine landed in India in 2018, and 300 kilograms landed in Mumbai alone. The number was discovered by a detailed investigation into a seizure of 55 kg of cocaine in Australia in June 2019; the same organization was behind both. NCB has already registered a case based on the Australian report.

According to OCN officials, most of the cocaine reaches India via the Colombia-Brazil-Mozambique route, while other African destinations and the Dubai area are sometimes used as an alternative route. Since India is the largest producer of potassium permanganate, which is used in the processing of cocaine, some organizations even planned to establish a cocaine processing unit in the country, these officials added.

Given that India consumes almost a ton of heroin every day, partner agencies have also alerted the OCN to the possibility of an Afghan heroin processing unit in India arriving via Punjab (from Pakistan) or by road. sea ​​from Gujarat.
