A Mumbai court on Sunday sent former Dharma Productions executive Kshitij Prasad into the custody of the Office of Narcotics Control until October 3. However, NCB (Southwest) Deputy General Manager Mutha Ashok Jain denied the allegations, saying the investigation was conducted in a “professional” manner.

While the NCB, in its request for police custody, claimed that it recovered a joint believed to be the remains of a roll of smoked Ganja, and confiscated certain documents and devices. Prasad has denied all the charges and claimed that he is being “framed”.

Prasad was detained Saturday night by the OCN after his sustained questioning after his name came up during the investigation of the other defendants. The NCB brought him before a Court of First Instance seeking his preventive detention for nine days, but the court granted him six days.

In a 7-page pre-trial request, NCB joint intelligence officer Murari Lal said that Sanket Patel, a previously arrested street vendor, had supplied Ganja to Prasad on the order of another co-defendant, Karamjeet Singh Anand.

According to an ANI report, the OCN said that Prasad is indirectly related to Anuj Keshwani, from whom commercial quantities of narcotics were seized.

With Prasad’s arrest, the NCB’s net total in the drug case has reached 20 as of Sunday. While some are in NCB custody, others are in judicial custody and the rest have been extended on bail by various courts.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Karan Johar has distanced himself from the investigation. He issued a statement late Friday night, denying claims that Prasad was associated with his organization.

In his post, Karan said that Kshitij had joined Dharmatic Entertainment, a sister company of Dharma Productions, in November 2019 as one of the executive producers “under contract for a project, which ultimately did not materialize.”
