The roster had some notable injury absences in the form of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma, while Rishabh Pant was also eliminated from the limited squads. However, one name that many fans, former cricketers and experts were eager to see but could not find was Suryakumar Yadav.
The Mumbai Indians batsman was endorsed by many to seek a spot on the Indian team, at least in the shorter format following his consistency in national cricket and the current 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). But the committee of BCCI selection had other ideas.
As soon as the list came out, outraged fans criticized the selectors for Surya’s omission, and even veteran Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to express his disappointment. Now another big name from the Indian cricket spectrum has lashed out at the selection committee.
Dilip Vengsarkar, a former Indian cricketer, admitted to being stunned by Suryakumar’s omission by calling him one of the most talented batsmen on the Indian circuit today.
“I’m in awe of the omission of ‘Surya’, who is currently one of the most talented hitters in the country, from the teams selected for the Australian tour. As far as potential is concerned, I can compare Surya to the best on the Indian team. . He has consistently scored runs. I don’t know what else he has to do to deserve a spot on the Indian team, “Vengsarkar told the Times of India.
Vengsarkar even went on to compare Surya’s talent to the best players on the Indian cricket team when he asked BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to investigate the exclusion of the right-handed hitter.
“A batsman is at his peak between the ages of 26 and 34. And I think Surya (30) is at the peak of his career. If form and physical condition are not the criteria, then what is?” Said the former boss. India coach. “With Rohit (Sharma) out of the squad due to a (hamstring) injury, Surya should have been there to strengthen the middle order. BCCI president Ganguly should question the motive behind Surya’s downfall, “he emphasized.
The call-up for Team India may not have come, but Suryakumar Yadav still has a big task on his shoulders as it relates to the rest of the 2020 IPL campaign. With IM as one of the favorites to lift the title, Suryakumar would look to play. a key role in helping the team defend the title and, in the process, sending a strong message to the selectors who snubbed him.
